ARTISTIC INSPIRATION

Quotation from Henry Royce (1863-1933):

“The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.”

PLEASURE OF LIFE

People without imagination often ask us: “what is for this empty box?”;

“why is it so expensive? Is there any food inside?” or comment:

“it is waste of money to spend for a paper package to be thrown away”.

Then we answer: “It is said ‘European paper can last for hundreds years,

and Japanese paper can last for one thousand years’.

Restoring antique paper objects everyday for twenty years, we know it is very true.

High-quality paper is an amazingly durable material.

In a paper box, you can put anything you want.  It is all up to you.

You can keep in order and embellish your home at the same time.

We define such functional and decorative objects ‘pleasure of life’”.

BESPOKE

“Bespoke” is not only for clothes and shoes,

but also for books, decorative objects and art conservation,

and “high quality” has its cost.

Before the Industrial Revolution, bookbinding was

always and only “bespoke” for many centuries.

It is exactly the same tradition that Giannini and Kuwata

continue to practice still today and hope to hand down to the coming centuries.

FLORENTINE CHRISTMAS LOG

Brief introduction

The origin of the Florentine Christmas Log dates back to the Middle Ages. It was a custom mainly among farmers. Initially they were simple tree trunks collected from the woods. The best one was then put on the fire to burn on Christmas Eve. If it was still burning on the morning of the 25th, it was considered a sign of prosperity for the coming year.

In time, tradition changed and it became common to construct the pyramidal framework which we know today. It was made up of three poles, four pine cones and triangular shaped shelves. These were then decorated with ribbons and dried fruit. More elaborate ones were embellished with toys, dates, pieces of panforte and the Nativity Crib was displayed on the lowest shelf.

Half way through the 19th century it disappeared, but thanks to the English community resident in Florence, it reappeared briefly in the 20th century.

The Florentine Christmas Log is a symbol of unity, family, strength and positivity.

CEPPO FIORENTINO

Cenni storici

BESPOKE BOXES
